Lithgow and Molina are magnificent in this moving, topical and beautifully tender portrait of a marriage from director Ira Sachs. After 39 years together Ben and George take advantage of the new laws and marry in New York. The happy celebrations are short-lived.
“A beautifully observed portrait of love, family, and the vagaries of New York real estate. It’s a mature and subtle piece of story-telling , with classical compositions by Chopin on the film’s soundtrack. Something rather marvelous and moving; it’s part romantic comedy, part ageing drama, part family portrait, part ode to a beloved city”.
