Synopsis:

DRAMA:
Two friends composer Fred Ballinger [Michael Caine] and film director Mick [Harvey Keitel] contemplate retirement, love and their legacy while holidaying at a luxury Swiss spa. Fred has no plans to continue his career despite being urged to by his daughter Lena [Rachel Weisz] while Fred is working on his comeback film to star his muse Brenda [Jane Fonda]. Other spa guests include the reigning Miss Universe [Madalina Diana Ghenea] and a jaded Hollywood actor [Paul Dano].

The film title’s literary resonance with Tolstoy and similar writers sees Fred being forced to reflect on his parental, love and career regrets yet it more adequately refers to the two friend’s musings about their aging and the continual allure of young women for them.
