This fascinating drama charts the relationship between a Port Talbot school teacher, Philip Burton (Toby Jones) and a wild school boy (Harry Lawtey) by the name of Richie Jenkins, the son of a boozy miner.
It’s the 1940s in a small Welsh mining town and Richie has always dreamt of becoming an actor. But with most families in the area living on the poverty line, working at the pit from an early age was a necessity that made schooling and fanciful thoughts of acting a luxury.
However, Philip recognises Richie’s raw talent and tutors him. The result being that Richie becomes the greatest star Wales has ever produced.
“The story allows Jones and Lawtey to give a wonderfully detailed window into both Richie’s conflict and demons but also his tremendous potential.” – IMDB
