Benediction stars Jack Louden as the young Sigfried Sassoon and Peter Capaldi in his older years. A complex man who survived the horrors of fighting in the First World War,  Sassoon, was decorated for his bravery on the battlefield but he also became a vocal critic of the government’s continuation of the war when he returned from service.
Sigfried Sassoon’s poetry was inspired by his experiences on the Western Front, and he was one of the leading war poets of the era. Adored by the aristocracy as well as stars of
London’s literary and stage world, Sassoon remained broken by the horror of war and made his life’s journey a quest for salvation.
Brilliant cinema. A lyrical and spiritual masterpiece. – Celluloid Dreams
