Synopsis

“Caesar must Die” follows the inmates of the high security Rebibbia prison as they rehearse for a performance of Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’. The legendary scenes are played out in the prison cells and courtyard, as the rehearsal process infiltrates the inmates’ day-to-day lives.

Tensions between prisoners rumble to the surface as life imitates art, and the Shakespearian tragedy provides the context for revelations of feelings, . . .  of power, fraternity, and betrayal.

Above all, this is a film of genuine humanity and compassion, exquisitely revealed. It finds the common ground between Shakespeare’s play and cell life: corruption, betrayal, and collusion.
