Synopsis:

Poland 1962. Anna is an 18-year old initiate preparing to become a nun at the convent where he has lived since being orphaned as a child. Before taking her vows, on the advise of her Mother Superior, Anna returns to her birth-place. She finds that her birth-name was Ida, and meets her only living relative : her mother’s sister Wanda.

Pawlikowski returns to his native Poland for the first time in his career, to confront contentious issues in the history of his country. Powerfully written and eloquently shot, IDA is a  masterly portrayal of defining historical events.
