The story centres on a family who are all deaf and mute except for teen daughter Paula [Louane Emera] who acts as their translator to the outside world. The family own a farm and sell cheese at the local market. Despite being caring parents, Mum Gigi [Karin Viard] and Dad Rodolphe [Francois Damiens] don’t understand what music means to people when Paula is discovered to be a talented singer and is asked by her choir director to audition for the elite Maitrise de Radio France, in Paris. Comedy and drama combine as the family find a way to sort their dilemma of Paula continuing to help them or supporting her in the opportunity of a lifetime.
