This heartwarming film is based on the true story of 89-year-old British World War II Navy veteran, Bernard Jordan.
With commemorations due to take place for the 70th anniversary of D-Day in France, Bernie is heartbroken. He is in no condition to attend and he is living out his days in a nursing home in Suffolk.
Undeterred, Bernie hatches a plan to break out of his nursing home to secretly attend the ceremony in France. Along the way, he’s aided by strangers, makes new friends and aims to give a heartfelt goodbye to a fallen friend. On top of this, news of his “escape” makes him an international sensation.
