Andrew Blake (John Malkovich) is a widower wanting to retreat from a world where he feels he no longer fits.
On a whim, he walks away from his business empire for the chance to move to France and become a butler. It’s the region where he met his wife and he longs to relive his memories of her.
And as a butler for a large estate, Andrew is confident he’ll be delegating all the work, leaving plenty of time for personal reflection.
However, life on this estate is constant chaos, due mainly to his new boss, Nathalie (Fanny Ardant) and her wildly eccentric staff. What Andrew hoped would be a quiet, reflective retirement becomes a full scale challenge to overcome and the beginnings of a new chapter in his life.
